Job statuses

Last updated: November 1, 2026

Job statuses help you track the progress of your jobs. You can create statuses that match your company’s workflow. Every job has one status, which also determines whether the job is open or closed.

Manage job statuses

Your job statuses are listed in Company settings > Jobs > Statuses. Each status has a name and a color, and it can be marked Closed job.

  1. Go to Company settings > Jobs > Statuses.
  2. To add a status, select New status, enter its name, and choose a color.
  3. To rename a status, edit its name in the list. To change its color, choose a new color.
  4. To have a status close the jobs that have it, select Closed job for that status. To make it an open status again, clear Closed job.
  5. To delete a status, select the delete icon next to it.
  6. Select Update.

To undo changes you haven’t saved, select Discard changes.

When you rename a status, jobs that have it show the new name. When you change a status’s Closed job setting, jobs that have it become closed or open to match.

Delete a status

Important: You can’t delete the New status. You can delete any other status, but only when no job has it.

To delete a status that jobs have:

  1. In the Jobs list, use the Status filter to show the jobs that have the status.
  2. Change each of those jobs to a different status. To change several jobs at once, select them in the list and use Bulk actions.
  3. Go to Company settings > Jobs > Statuses, delete the status, and select Update.

Change a job’s status

You can choose a Job status when you create a job. If you don’t choose one, the job gets the New status. See Create and edit a job.

To change a job’s status from the job:

  1. Open the job.
  2. Select the job’s status.
  3. Choose a status.

A job’s status can’t be cleared.

Users with the Update job status and tags permission can change a job’s status, even if they otherwise have read-only access to jobs.

Open and closed jobs

A job is closed when its status is marked Closed job. Any other job is open. You can still fully edit a closed job.

  • To close a job, change its status to one marked Closed job.
  • To reopen a closed job, change its status to one that isn’t marked Closed job.

In the Jobs list, use the Showing filter to view Open jobs, Closed jobs, or All jobs. Use the Status filter to find jobs with specific statuses, or sort by the Status column. See Find, filter, and sort jobs.
