Cancel or delete an invoice

Last updated: November 3, 2026

Cancel an invoice to keep it on record, or delete it to remove it permanently.

Cancel an invoice

Change the invoice’s status to Canceled. Draft and Open invoices can be canceled. Active payments block cancellation. If the invoice has active payments, delete, void, or refund them first.

A canceled invoice remains in your invoices, and its web page shows it as Canceled with payment unavailable. You can reopen it by changing its status. See Invoice statuses.

Delete an invoice

  1. Open the invoice.
  2. Open its more options menu and select Delete invoice.

You can delete Draft, Open, and Canceled invoices that have no payments. Payments you recorded yourself can be deleted first. Payments your customer made online can’t be deleted, so an invoice with an online payment can’t be deleted. To cancel it, first void or refund any active payments.

Deleting is permanent. The invoice’s web page no longer shows the invoice.

Your customer isn’t notified when you cancel or delete an invoice.
