Create and edit a purchase order

Last updated: November 3, 2026

Create a purchase order for a vendor, add line items, and edit a saved purchase order in the Cinderblock mobile app.

Create a purchase order

  1. Select Purchase Orders, then select New PO.
  2. Select Select vendor and choose the vendor. You can also create a new vendor while selecting one.
  3. Select Add item and add your line items. See Add line items.
  4. Optionally, add a public note, attach the purchase order to a job using Attach to job, and set the work dates using Set work date range.
  5. Select Save.

A vendor is required. The purchase order is saved as Draft. Saving it doesn’t send it to your vendor or notify them.

Create a purchase order from a job

  1. Open the job, then open its Purchase orders.
  2. Select New PO.

You can also select Create on the job and choose PO.

The purchase order is attached to the job and uses the job’s address. It’s for a vendor, not the job’s customer.

Add line items

When you select Add item, use Search items to find an item in your Services & Materials, or select Create new item. Items from your Services & Materials show their unit cost.

For a new item, choose Service or Material and enter its name, description, unit price, and quantity.

Save to Services & Materials is on by default and adds the new item to your Services & Materials so you can reuse it. Turn it off to add the item to this purchase order only.

Save the item to add it to the purchase order, then select Save on the purchase order.

Edit a saved purchase order

Open the purchase order to see its Items, Files, and Details.

  • Items: Select Manage items to add or change line items. Save each line after you change it.
  • Details: Change the PO date, the work date range, the Public note, and Terms & conditions.
    • PO date: Choose the date, then select Done.
    • Work date range: To remove it, select Clear, then select Save.
    • Public note: Make your changes and save them. If you close the note without saving, select Keep working to continue editing or Discard to keep the previous note.
  • Files: Select Add file, then choose Select from gallery or Upload file.

Editing a purchase order doesn’t notify your vendor. Your vendor is notified only when you send the purchase order. See Send a purchase order.
