Sub-customers

Last updated: November 4, 2026

A sub-customer belongs to another customer, called its parent customer, such as a company managed by a property management company.

Sub-customers are a QuickBooks Online concept. In Cinderblock, they work like any other customer, and the parent relationship is primarily relevant when customers are organized this way in QuickBooks Online.

Make a customer a sub-customer

  1. Open the customer.
  2. Next to the customer’s name, open Edit Customer.
  3. Turn on This is a sub-customer.
  4. Select the parent customer. The parent must be an existing customer.
  5. Select Update customer.

The sub-customer’s profile shows Parent customer with the parent’s name.

Remove a sub-customer’s parent

  1. Open the sub-customer.
  2. Open Edit Customer and turn off This is a sub-customer.
  3. Select Update customer.

How sub-customers work

  • A sub-customer keeps its own contact details and its own jobs, appointments, estimates, and invoices.
  • Parent customers and sub-customers appear as separate customers in the Customers list.
  • When you export customers, the file includes each sub-customer’s parent customer.

QuickBooks Online sync

Parent and sub-customer links sync both ways between Cinderblock and QuickBooks Online. Linking or unlinking a sub-customer in Cinderblock updates QuickBooks Online.

Restrictions

  • Parent customers and sub-customers can’t be merged.
  • A parent customer can’t be deleted until its sub-customers are unlinked or deleted.
