Create and edit a job
Last updated: November 1, 2026
A job keeps a customer’s work and related records together, including estimates, invoices, tasks, appointments, files, and forms. You can create a job, assign users, and update its details as the work progresses.
Create a job
-
Select Jobs > New job, or select Create new > Job.
To create a job for a specific customer, open the customer and select Jobs > New job. The customer is filled in for you.
-
Choose the Customer, or select Create new customer to add one. See Add a new customer.
-
Add the job’s details: Job name, Job type, Job description, and Job address. See Choose the job address.
-
To set the job’s status, assign users, or add tags now, select Display advanced options.
-
Select Create job.
Only the customer is required. Job name, Job type, Job description, Job address, and the advanced options (Job status, Assigned users, and Job tags) are optional.
Note: You can’t change a job’s customer after you create it. To do the work for a different customer, create a new job for that customer.
Add a new customer
When you select Create new customer, enter the customer’s details and save them. A new customer needs only a first name, last name, or company name. The customer is added to your customers, and you return to the job with the new customer selected. Then choose the job address.
Choose the job address
After you choose the customer, select Job address to:
- Choose one of the customer’s saved addresses.
- Select Create new address to enter a new one.
- Select Clear selection to remove the selected address.
When you create a new address, Save address to customer profile is off by default. Leave it off to add a one-time address to this job only. The customer’s saved addresses don’t change. Turn it on to also save the address to the customer’s profile.
Assign users to a job
Assigning a user to a job records who’s responsible for it. The job appears in the assigned user’s Jobs list. Assignment also gives the user permission to view the job, even if their role wouldn’t otherwise allow it. Assignment alone doesn’t give permission to edit the job.
Note: Users assigned to something within the job, such as an appointment, can also view the job, but it doesn’t appear in their Jobs list.
To assign users when you create a job, select Display advanced options and choose them under Assigned users.
To change who’s assigned to an existing job:
- Open the job.
- Under Assigned users, open the list of users. If no one is assigned yet, select Add user.
- Select the users you want to assign, and clear any users you want to remove. You can search for a user or choose Select all.
- Select Apply.
Your changes take effect when you select Apply. To assign yourself, select Assign me.
Assignment notifications
Users receive an assignment notification when a job is created with them assigned or when they’re added to an existing job. For an existing job, notifications are sent when you select Apply.
Each user chooses how they’re notified (email, in-app, or push) for When I’ve been assigned to a job in their Notifications preferences.
If you create a job with no one assigned, no one is notified.
Edit a job
- Open the job.
- Open Edit job.
- Change the Job name, Job address, Job type, or Job description.
- Select Update job.
A job’s customer can’t be changed.
You can also change a job’s type, status, and tags directly from the job, without opening Edit job. To change who’s assigned, see Assign users to a job.
