Send an invoice
Last updated: October 30, 2026
Email an invoice to your customer, or copy the link to the invoice’s web page. You can send an invoice only after it’s saved.
Email an invoice
-
Open the saved invoice.
-
Select Send invoice.
The Send email panel opens.
-
Select at least one email recipient.
- Under Customer emails, select the addresses to send to. The customer's primary email is marked.
- To send to an address that isn't saved for the customer, select Send to a different email address and enter one address. To save it to the customer's profile, turn on Save to customer profile.
- To get a copy yourself, select Send me a copy. Your copy is sent as a blind copy (BCC), so other recipients don't see you on the email.
-
Under Invoice email settings, choose what to include in the email. At least one option must be on.
- Link to web view: Includes a link to the invoice’s web page.
- PDF attachment: Attaches the invoice PDF, along with any files on the invoice’s Attachments tab.
-
Select Send email.
Copy the web link
-
Open the saved invoice.
-
Select the arrow next to Send invoice, then select Copy web link.
The link to the invoice’s web page is copied to your clipboard.
What your customer can do
On the invoice’s web page, your customer can pay online if you accept online payments. If Require signature is on for the invoice, your customer signs it before paying. For details, see How do customers pay an invoice? and How do customers sign an invoice?
What happens after you send
When you email a Draft invoice or copy its web link, its status changes to Open. Sending an invoice or copying its web link doesn’t change any other status.
If you send the email only to yourself, the status doesn’t change and the invoice isn’t marked Emailed.
Once the invoice is emailed, Emailed appears next to its status. Hold your pointer over Emailed to see when the invoice was first emailed.
Send an invoice again
Editing an invoice doesn’t notify your customer, but once saved, your changes appear on its web link right away. To notify your customer of the changes, send the invoice again.
If editing the invoice removes your customer’s signature, send the invoice again so they know they need to sign it again.
