How to measure sod coverage

Add each lawn section as a rectangle or circle. Use diameter for circles. Deduct beds, paving, or other excluded areas from the section they belong to, and avoid overlapping measured sections.

Enter coverage per piece or roll and the supplier’s pallet coverage. Both are editable because sod cut formats and pallet quantities vary. Review the cutting/waste allowance before reading the purchase quantities.

Rolls and pallets are alternatives

The calculator totals net lawn area, adds your allowance, and rounds separately to whole pieces/rolls and whole pallets. The pallet result is the primary purchase figure; the piece count is an alternative order format.

Do not add the displayed rolls to the displayed pallets. They cover the same planned lawn area in different purchase units. Purchased pallet coverage can exceed the required area because a final pallet is rounded up.

Check the grower’s order units

Use this to compare full-pallet ordering with an individual-piece allowance for a new lawn or separate repair areas. The tool estimates coverage, not sod cost, delivery timing, soil preparation, or irrigation requirements. Confirm what the grower actually supplies per roll and pallet before ordering. US and metric area measurements are available.

Keep the material allowance with the job

Use the quantity estimate to check supplier costs before you price the work.

Cinderblock keeps estimates, invoices, notes, and files with the job. The Build plan adds job costing from labor, materials, purchase orders, and manually entered costs. Calculator inputs do not transfer into Cinderblock automatically.
