How to estimate paving materials

Choose the installation pattern, then select Single rectangular size or Mixed-size repeating module. For one size, enter actual paver dimensions and check joint spacing. For mixed sizes, enter the supplier’s installed module area and the number of pavers in one complete repeat.

Add non-overlapping rectangular project sections and deduct excluded areas. In material settings, review paver waste, compacted base depth, bedding sand depth, and the separate base ordering allowance.

Read the paver and base results

Single-size quantities use the joint-inclusive paver module. Mixed-size quantities round to complete repeats, preserving the supplied pattern’s piece ratio. Waste increases the paving quantity before purchase rounding.

Base and sand volume come from the net paving area multiplied by their entered depths. The base ordering allowance increases the compacted base volume for planning; it is separate from paver cutting waste. Results distinguish compacted base volume from the base order quantity.

Check edges and construction details

The summed section perimeter includes shared edges. Remove those when planning edge restraint, and account separately for base extending beyond the finished paving. The tool does not calculate polymeric sand, exact cutting layouts, or the required construction depth for your site. Confirm product dimensions and base assumptions with the supplier. US and metric modes are available.

Keep the material allowance with the job

Use the quantity estimate to check supplier costs before you price the work.

Cinderblock keeps estimates, invoices, notes, and files with the job. The Build plan adds job costing from labor, materials, purchase orders, and manually entered costs. Calculator inputs do not transfer into Cinderblock automatically.

Paver questions

Yes, when the supplier provides the installed area and piece count for a complete repeating module. It purchases full repeats rather than guessing a mix.

Yes. Enter their depths in material settings. Base ordering allowance is separate from the paver waste percentage.

No. The sand result is bedding sand volume. Joint-filling products require their own product-specific estimate.

Not necessarily. Adding rectangular sections counts their shared edges, and the tool does not remove those automatically. Review the actual outside boundary.
