How to calculate drywall sheets

Choose Rooms when you have room lengths and widths, or Individual wall sections when you are measuring walls separately. Enter the shared wall height, then add each room or section once. In room mode, choose whether to include ceilings.

Open Openings & exclusions for the relevant room or wall to enter the total door and window area. Select 4 × 8, 4 × 10, or 4 × 12 ft sheets, or enter custom sheet dimensions. Review the waste allowance in Material settings & waste.

What the sheet count includes

Room walls use perimeter × height; ceilings use room length × width. The calculator subtracts wall openings, adds the chosen allowance, divides by sheet area, and rounds up to whole sheets. Results separate gross wall area, ceiling area, deductions, and sheets before waste.

A 4 × 8 ft sheet covers 32 square feet before cuts. That area does not mean every offcut can be reused. Doorways, ceiling joints, wall height, and sheet orientation affect the final layout.

Plan coverage before finishing supplies

Use the result for a room renovation, ceiling replacement, or a group of walls with the same height. The thickness selector records your choice; it does not change sheet coverage or determine which assembly you need. Screws, joint compound, tape, and framing are outside this sheet estimate. Check the actual layout before ordering. Measurements can be entered in US or metric mode.
