How to calculate bricks for a wall

Select a single stretcher wythe, two stretcher wythes, or a single header-face wythe. Enter the common wall height and add each section’s length. Deduct openings from the section they belong to.

Open Material settings & waste to check actual brick length, height, depth, joint width, and the waste allowance. Use actual product dimensions rather than treating a nominal brick size as a measured face.

Understand the wall configuration

Stretcher mode uses brick length as the visible face. Header mode uses brick depth as the face length. Two-wythe mode counts two parallel layers, doubling the unrounded quantity before purchase rounding.

For each configuration, the repeated face includes one mortar joint in each direction. Net wall area determines the count, and your allowance increases the purchase quantity. Results also show units before waste and approximate courses.

Check details outside the face-area estimate

Use this for an initial quantity comparison when choosing brick dimensions or planning multiple wall sections at one height. It does not lay out a bond, optimize cuts, or count special corner and lintel units. Mortar, grout, ties, and reinforcement are outside the estimate. Check the specified wall construction and supplier packaging before ordering. Measurements support both US and metric display.

Keep the material allowance with the job

Use the quantity estimate to check supplier costs before you price the work.

Cinderblock keeps estimates, invoices, notes, and files with the job. The Build plan adds job costing from labor, materials, purchase orders, and manually entered costs. Calculator inputs do not transfer into Cinderblock automatically.

Brick questions

Yes. Choose Two wythes, stretcher faces. The calculator counts two parallel brick layers, rather than applying an arbitrary waste increase.

Brick depth becomes the visible face length. Check that the selected configuration matches the wall you are estimating.

Yes, through the editable joint width used in the repeated brick face. It does not calculate the volume or bags of mortar.

The current calculation uses one wall height. Calculate different-height groups separately and combine the purchase allowances.
